About

Features and Benefits of Holistic Nutrition

Holistic Nutrition works to create health and balance physically and emotionally by using whole, organic foods. Nutrients from food are essential to all body processes including healing from sickness, hormone regulation, muscle, fat, and bone building, digestion, blood circulation and health, sleep, emotional regulation, and heart health. Food supplies the nourishment required to keep the systems of the body functioning in a healthy way. Eating processed foods contributes to nutritional deficiencies and toxic overload in the body, which is often the cause of disease and health concerns. What you eat affects your mind, mood, energy level, and feeling of well-being.

Holistic nutrition focuses on observing each individual’s lifestyle and dietary intake in order to create health goals that are achievable. I provide education on the benefit of eating nutrient dense, organic, whole foods. I also help promote change and encouragement along your journey to wellness.

How is a Holistic Nutritionist different from a Registered Dietician?

Holistic Nutritionists are similar to Registered Dieticians in that we are food based, science based, and work in community and clinical settings. Holistic Nutritionists are different to Registered Dieticians in that we focus on whole, organic, and local foods, we have individualized programs rather than using associations of disease, and we teach healthy eating rather than the food pyramid, or medical nutrition. Holistic Nutritionists do not focus on counting calories, but instead on the whole picture of wellness for each individual.

About Amber

Amber Young, NC, is a Certified Nutrition Consultant whose passion is to help others obtain the nutritional information they need in order to feel vibrant, young, and in control of their own health and happiness. Amber has a Bachelor of Arts in Transpersonal Psychology from Naropa University in Boulder, CO and is a Certified Nutrition Educator and Certified Nutrition Consultant from Bauman Integrative Wellness in Berkeley, CA. Her professional experience includes counseling, personal training, and nutrition consulting.

Amber’s uses a Holistic approach, which addresses a person’s overall well-being including physical, mental, and emotional health. She understands the complexity of health for each human and the social/cultural implications of each person’s understanding of their own health and wellness. A holistic system discovers the underlying causes of disease, fatigue, weight gain, infertility, hormonal imbalance, and mental health, rather than just treating the symptoms. Amber believes that everyone has the ability to heal their own bodies and can be an advocate for their own health with the right information and support.

As a Holistic Nutrition Consultant, Amber works with clients to create an individualized plan that address both mind and body by reviewing a client's current beliefs about their body and wellness, health habits, and wellness goals. These goals can include treating disease, having more energy, losing weight, digestive wellness, fertility, and graceful aging, as well as many others. A client’s individualized plan will include an outline of health goals, specific nutrients needed, guidance on eating whole foods, allergy assessment, stress reduction techniques, and exercise evaluation.

Amber has lived all over the United States, but now calls Madison, WI her home. She lives with her partner and two children.
